Tribute by Pastor Winston Millwood
The Day I fell In Love With A Beautiful Angel
I can recall the day in June 1977 when I first fell in love with Dawn as if it were yesterday. It was one of the greatest days in my life. There was a fanfare to mark the occasion and the whole country was given the day off to celebrate with us! A minor celebration also took place that day at Buckingham Palace as the Queen celebrated her Silver Jubilee. However, I knew the real reason for the celebration – which included a 21 gun salute, was to mark the occasion that God sent this beautiful angel into my life. Dawn
We met at the Fun Fair that year – which was part of the Queen’s Silver Jubilee celebration, and I knew from that very moment that our paths would be forever intertwined. I was 17 years old and I had no money as I was a young college student. Dawn, however, wanted to go on some of the rides but unfortunately as my funds were depleted from two previous rides, I borrowed £5 from her!! Sadly, to this very day, I have not paid her back! I thought about it many times, but I couldn’t afford the interest that had accumulated over the years. My lack of finance during those early years did not deter her love for me. As a result, on September 22nd 1979, we both took vows to be faithful, to love and cherish each other for the rest of our lives. We were later blessed with two children and two grandchildren.
Dawn was the most beautiful and wonderful person I’ve ever met. She had the purest soul that could only belong to an angel. She touched the lives of everyone she came into contact with. She transformed me into the person that I am today. Dawn stood at my side every moment in my life and was very active in my ministry as a Pastor’s wife.
It was very easy to love Dawn because there was no hatred in her heart. Love came natural to Dawn, she loved everyone – regardless of their faults. Over the years our hearts became infused together as they beat as one. Dawn was my best friend and we kept no secrets from each other.
Although I don’t understand why God called her back home so soon, and I wouldn’t question Him as He is Sovereign. Nevertheless, I will continue to thank Him for the 44 years that He gave us. How different her departure from our first encounter? Our first encounter was filled with joyful celebrations, whilst her return to heaven is filled with grief and sorrow for me, it became the darkest day in my life. God knew the pain it was going to cause myself, our children, our grandchildren and everyone who came into contact with her, so he did not provide any celebration here on earth, but I know, heaven rejoiced that day over the return of one of their own.
Rest in the arms of your beloved Saviour my precious and I will see you one day.
